TASTING NOTES FOR Nick O’Leary Bolaro Shiraz Canberra District 2023
🍷 Appearance
Deep ruby with vibrant purple-crimson hues. Concentrated and youthful in the glass, with excellent depth and brightness.
👃 Aromas
Complex and beautifully perfumed, with blackberry, dark cherry and ripe plum layered with violet, cracked black pepper and fragrant spice. Subtle earthy and savoury notes add further complexity.
👅 Palate
Medium to full-bodied with concentrated blackberry, blueberry and dark plum fruit. Pepper, spice and savoury characters provide depth, while well-integrated oak supports the fruit without dominating.
🍈 Texture & Finish
Finely structured with polished, persistent tannins and fresh acidity. The texture is supple yet composed, leading to a long, savoury finish of dark berries, pepper and lingering spice.
🍇 Overall Style
A refined and sophisticated cool-climate Shiraz combining impressive fruit concentration with elegance and savoury complexity. Powerful enough to make an impact, yet beautifully balanced and controlled.
🍽️ Food Pairing
Excellent with roast lamb, chargrilled steak, slow-cooked beef, venison, duck, mushroom dishes or mature hard cheeses.
🥂 BBD Verdict
An impressive premium Canberra District Shiraz with excellent depth, elegance and structure. Concentrated dark fruit, fragrant spice and classic peppery characters are beautifully balanced by fine tannins and freshness. A serious Shiraz that is highly enjoyable now but should develop superbly with careful cellaring.
Cheers
