TASTING NOTES FOR Nick O’Leary Shiraz Canberra District 2024
🍷 Appearance
Deep ruby-purple with bright crimson hues. Vibrant and youthful in the glass, showing excellent colour without excessive weight.
👃 Aromas
Perfumed and expressive, with blackberry, blueberry and ripe plum complemented by lifted violet florals, cracked black pepper and subtle savoury spice.
👅 Palate
Medium-bodied, elegant and beautifully balanced, with juicy blackberry, dark plum and blueberry flavours. Black pepper and savoury spice add complexity, while subtle oak sits neatly behind the fruit.
🍈 Texture & Finish
Supple and finely structured, with bright acidity and fine, chalky tannins. The finish is long, fresh and savoury, leaving lingering dark fruit, pepper and spice.
🍇 Overall Style
A classic cool-climate Canberra District Shiraz—perfumed, spicy and refined rather than heavy. The combination of vibrant dark fruit, peppery complexity and fine tannins gives the wine excellent balance and drinkability.
🍽️ Food Pairing
Excellent with lamb cutlets, grilled steak, roast beef, venison, slow-cooked beef cheeks, mushroom dishes or mature hard cheeses.
🥂 BBD Verdict
An impressive and beautifully composed Canberra District Shiraz. Dark berry fruit, violets and black pepper combine with fine tannins and fresh acidity to produce an elegant, savoury and very approachable wine. A terrific example of modern cool-climate Australian Shiraz.
Cheers
