TASTING NOTES FOR Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay Margaret River Western Australia 2024
🍷 Appearance
Bright pale straw with a subtle green tinge. Brilliant and youthful in the glass, immediately suggesting freshness and precision.
👃 Aromas
Powerful and beautifully complex, with ripe peach, mandarin peel and preserved lemon layered with roasted cashew, native herbs and savoury forest-floor notes. Struck flint and wet-stone characters provide further mineral complexity.
👅 Palate
Richly flavoured yet remarkably precise, with a concentrated core of peach and citrus. Ginger, fennel and kaffir lime add savoury detail, while vibrant natural acidity and a saline edge provide excellent tension and balance.
🍈 Texture & Finish
Powerful and finely textured, with chalky phenolics and beautifully integrated oak providing structure. The palate builds impressively towards a long, dry and tightly defined finish, with lingering citrus, stone fruit and mineral freshness.
🍇 Overall Style
A serious and sophisticated Margaret River Chardonnay combining concentration, elegance and remarkable freshness. Hand-harvested Gingin clone fruit was whole-bunch pressed and wild fermented, followed by 10 months in French oak barriques, 53% new, and a further six months on lees in tank.
🍽️ Food Pairing
Excellent with grilled lobster, scallops, roast chicken, baked snapper, seafood risotto or richer white-fish dishes. Its combination of power, acidity and savoury complexity makes it an outstanding wine for the table.
⭐ BBD Verdict
An exceptional Margaret River Chardonnay with impressive depth, power and precision. Concentrated peach and citrus, savoury complexity, beautifully judged oak and vibrant acidity come together seamlessly. Refined, structured and wonderfully long—a premium Chardonnay with genuine presence and excellent cellaring potential.
