TASTING NOTES FOR Charles Melton Domaine Sophie Claire Grenache Shiraz Riesling Barossa Valley South Australia 2022
🍷 Appearance
Bright ruby red with a vibrant purple hue. Lively and youthful, showing clarity and energy in the glass.
👃 Aromas
Perfumed and lifted, with red cherry, cranberry and plum layered with floral notes and spice. Subtle citrus blossom and a faint lime lift add intrigue—thanks to a small Riesling component.
👅 Palate
Medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, delivering juicy red fruits—cherry, cranberry and red plum—supported by spice and a gentle savoury edge. There’s a notable freshness and brightness that sets it apart from traditional Barossa blends.
🍈 Texture & Finish
Silky and supple with fine, gentle tannins. The finish is fresh, lively and persistent, with red fruit, spice and a subtle citrus lift providing energy and length.
🍇 Overall Style
A modern Barossa GSM-style blend with a twist—Grenache and Shiraz provide fruit and structure, while a small portion of co-fermented Riesling adds vibrancy, aromatics and lift. Medium-bodied, fresh and highly drinkable, with excellent balance and finesse.
🍽️ Food Pairing
Perfect with charcuterie, roast chicken, lamb, grilled vegetables or Mediterranean dishes. Also excellent slightly chilled for a more relaxed, modern drinking style.
🥂 BBD Verdict
A seriously smart, contemporary blend—bright, perfumed and dangerously drinkable. A standout for mixed dozens when you want something a little different that still delivers classic Barossa flavour.
Cheers
