TASTING NOTES FOR Elderton Elite Single Vineyard Command Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia 2017
🍷 Appearance
Deep, inky crimson with a near-black core—dense and powerful, showing classic Command concentration.
👃 Aromas
Intense and layered, with ripe blackberry, dark plum and black cherry. Notes of liquorice, dark chocolate and mocha sit alongside cedar, spice and subtle earthy complexity.
👅 Palate
Full-bodied yet slightly more restrained than some warmer vintages. Rich blackberry and spiced plum flavours lead, supported by cocoa, vanilla and savoury oak. The fruit is concentrated but controlled, delivering depth with finesse.
🍈 Texture & Finish
Seamless and polished, with fine, chalky tannins providing structure and elegance. The finish is long and persistent, carrying dark fruit, chocolate and spice with impressive balance.
🍇 Overall Style
An iconic Barossa Shiraz from 1894-planted old vines—powerful yet more refined in this vintage. A beautifully structured, age-worthy wine combining intensity with subtlety and precision.
🍽️ Food Pairing
Perfect with premium beef, lamb shanks, venison or rich braised dishes. Also outstanding with aged cheeses and bold, flavour-driven cuisine.
🍷 BBD Verdict
This is Command with a touch more elegance—still powerful, but beautifully controlled. A superb option for premium dozens or cellaring, delivering pedigree, complexity and long-term reward.
Cheers
