Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz is a sub-regional expression that is unmistakably Penfolds in character. Conceived from the ancient soils of Marananga, which lie very close to the centre of the Barossa Valley floor – slightly to the North-West, where warm dry conditions and rich red soil provide the backbone to some of the region’s best-known wines. Each release delivers a contemporary shiraz alternative, framed by a mix of oaks; French and American, old and new – crafted in the ‘Penfolds way’.
” Bin 150 has proved a success and this wine will do nothing but cement its reputation. For me, one of the stars of the Collection. The nose explodes with lashings of chocolate, mocha, coffee beans, delicatessen notes, truffles and blackfruits. Good complexity. On the palate, the wine is seamless. Very good length. The balance between acidity, tannins and fruit is spot on. A silky finish and one which lingers beautifully. This is a wine which is undoubtedly appealing now but has another decade plus ahead of it.”
” Marananga parades its depth, density and gloss to full effect. The dry and warm 2019 season builds significant presence of black plum and blackberry fruit, fresh liquorice straps and even a spicy fruit compote feel. Firm, fine drying tannins speak both of the season and the house, commanding all the longevity to be expected of both. A powerful if assertive take on Marananga. ”
” Deep crimson. Lifted blackberry, chinotto, dark chocolate roasted chestnut marzipan aromas. Beautifully balanced vigorous wine with inky blackberry, elderberry, chinotto, praline flavours, fine looseknit chalky grainy tannins and roasted chestnut, crème brulée, espresso notes. Finishes claret-firm with persistent inky dark fruits. Superb fruit definition, oak complexity and vigour.
A highly individual and beautiful wine with exceptional singularity and stamp of place. ”
