TASTING NOTES FOR Wangolina Shiraz Cabernet Limestone Coast South Australia 2023
🍷 Appearance
Deep crimson with bright ruby and purple hues. Vibrant and youthful in the glass, with attractive depth and clarity.
👃 Aromas
Lifted aromas of blackberry, baked plum and dark cherry, with mint, dried herbs and nutmeg adding savoury complexity. Cedar and brown spice provide a subtle oak influence.
👅 Palate
Soft, juicy and beautifully approachable, with crunchy red plum, blueberry and dark bramble fruits. Shiraz contributes generous fruit and bright acidity, while Cabernet brings structure and a gentle minty character.
🍈 Texture & Finish
Medium-bodied with finely shaped tannins and nicely integrated French oak. Fresh acidity keeps the wine lively, leading to a smooth, lingering finish of red plum, cedar and brown spice.
🍇 Overall Style
A classic Australian Shiraz Cabernet blend made from equal parts Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Predominantly sourced from Wangolina’s Mount Benson vineyard, with some Padthaway Shiraz, the wine spent 11 months in new and seasoned French hogsheads.
🍽️ Food Pairing
Excellent with grilled steak, roast lamb, beef burgers, slow-cooked brisket, barbecued meats or mature cheddar. Its juicy fruit, fresh acidity and supple tannins make it particularly versatile with hearty dishes.
⭐ BBD Verdict
A wonderfully approachable Limestone Coast red with juicy plum, blackberry and blueberry fruit, complemented by mint, cedar and savoury spice. Soft tannins and bright acidity keep everything beautifully balanced—a flavoursome, extremely drinkable Shiraz Cabernet with plenty of character.
Cheers
