TASTING NOTES FOR Best’s Great Western Chardonnay Great Western Victoria 2022
π· Appearance
Bright pale straw with light green hues. Fresh and vibrant in the glass with excellent clarity and youthful energy.
π Aromas
Complex and expressive aromas of white peach, nectarine and grapefruit layered with flinty mineral notes, subtle struck-match complexity and hints of roasted hazelnut. Delicate citrus blossom and gentle oak influence add further refinement.
π
Palate
Elegant and beautifully balanced, showing flavours of white stone fruits, citrus and grapefruit with excellent purity. A creamy mid-palate brings notes of roasted nuts, subtle butter and finely integrated French oak, while fresh acidity provides precision and drive.
π Texture & Finish
Smooth and textural with impressive finesse. Lees work and partial malolactic fermentation contribute creaminess without sacrificing freshness. The finish is long, mineral and persistent, carrying lingering stone fruit, citrus and savoury complexity.
π Overall Style
A refined cool-climate Victorian Chardonnay that balances fruit purity, texture and subtle oak beautifully. Elegant rather than overtly rich, it showcases the distinctive Great Western style with freshness, complexity and excellent drinkability.
π½οΈ Food Pairing
Perfect with grilled seafood, roast chicken, creamy pasta dishes, sushi, scallops and fresh seafood. Also excellent with soft cheeses and lightly spiced poultry dishes.
π
BBD Verdict
A classy and highly drinkable Chardonnay from one of Australia’s most historic wineries. Showing excellent balance between fruit, texture and oak, this is a polished cool-climate Chardonnay that delivers outstanding value and versatility at the table.
Cheers
